Soviet Realism was the bi-product of an environment of cultural isolation in which Russian painting evolved without significant influence from the west. During this period, the greatest Russian Art Institutes, the Surikov Institute in Moscow and the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg, produced artists whose work surpassed the best natural and realist genre paintings produced during the 20th century. At the highest level, artists of the Soviet Era painted with consummate technical adeptness. They took the finest traditions of great master artists of the past and built on their honored traditions. Lazare Gallery is proud to present exceptional works by some of the Soviet era's most remarkable artists.
